FREE CASE REVIEWDavid E. Gorney knows first-hand that people need an attorney at some of the hardest points in their lives. Coming from a blended family that was formed after a tragic motor vehicle accident, David has a unique understanding of how one moment can change your life forever. He also knows that in those moments, you need more than the right legal support, you need the right lawyer.
At its core, litigation is about conflict. David believes his job is to help his clients get a resolution, understanding that sometimes the resolution itself can be an important part of the healing. David believes that everyone deserves to be treated with compassion, dignity, and respect. David’s wife Katie, who is an exceptional therapist, taught him the importance of being therapeutically minded in his practice of law. After a traumatic incident, the last thing someone recovering from injuries needs is to be re-traumatized during the litigation process.
David explored multiple areas of the law until he found the right fit at Goodman Acker. David has worked at a University of Michigan family law clinic, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and other civil litigation firms, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. David’s unique experience grants him perspective other attorneys don’t have.
David and his brothers are the first generation in their family to graduate from college, and David is the first Gorney to become an attorney. David received his bachelor’s degree from the James Madison College at Michigan State University. After graduating, David took a break from academia and was promoted to a management level position where he worked. However, something was still missing, and his love for the law and the city of Detroit led him to the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law where he received his law degree.
A self-proclaimed kid at heart, when David is not in a courtroom, he can likely be found perusing his local comic book shop or toy store looking for the perfect additions to his collections. David also enjoys spending time with his two cats, Charlie and Linus, and the numerous strays he continues to feed, even though he knows he probably shouldn’t. However, David’s favorite pastime continues to be spending time with his beloved wife, Katie, and exploring his favorite city and hometown, Detroit.
