According to Crain's Detroit Business, “Honorees were selected by Crain's editorial staff based on their career accomplishments, impact in their field and contributions to their community, and to reflect the diversity of the region's business community.”
Acker’s career is evident of the characteristics that a Crain's Detroit Business “40 Under 40” award winner must possess. He joined the Goodman Acker team as an advocate for people who have been injured because of the negligence of others. Outside of his work as a personal injury lawyer, Acker has had a successful career in the political world. Before attending law school, he served as the Deputy Communications Director of the Michigan Democratic Party and worked on staff with U.S. Representative John Conyers for the House Judiciary Committee. He was a volunteer with President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign while in law school, and went on to be appointed to the Department of Homeland Security by President Obama as an attorney-advisor to Secretary Janet Napolitano. He continued with political consulting work when he joined Goodman Acker P.C.
Acker was elected as a Regent of the University of Michigan in 2018. He is also a member of the Michigan Bar since 2010 and a board member of the Jewish Federation of Metro Detroit NextGen since 2014. In 2015, he was named as a fellow of the Michigan Political Leaders Program. Michigan Lawyers Weekly named him as an “Up and Coming Lawyer” in 2016.
Congratulations to attorney Acker on the prestigious recognition from Crain's Detroit Business!
